Getting Started With POTS Syndrome Treatment

Over the first three days, our POTS syndrome doctors and care specialists will come together and ask, “In this case, what is the best treatment for POTS Syndrome?” That means an extensive review of the following:

Once our team understands the specifics of you and your case, we work with you to create a recovery plan.

We guide you through the beginning of your treatment. During this stage, we communicate with you frequently as we:

POTS Care® is a POTS treatment center built on the core value of individualized care. Read on for a detailed overview of our special services included in your individualized treatment package.

Close Review of Your Signs and Symptoms

Our team starts with a list of over 200 potential signs and symptoms, then plugs the results into a sophisticated algorithm that gives us a comprehensive overview of your POTS case.

Medical Records Evaluation

You’ve been to an extraordinary number of doctors in your search for answers, and we understand how overwhelming that process can be.

Whether you’ve seen gastroenterologists or neurologists, we will comb through your records — your test results, visits, and any data available. With fresh eyes, we can identify medical issues and signs and symptoms crucial to a systemic approach to POTS treatment.

MRI Review and Ocular Testing

Many people who come to us have already had a brain MRI. If you have, we’ll study it carefully. If you haven’t had a brain MRI yet, don’t worry — we’ll order one for you if it is needed.

We also conduct ocular testing to better understand your POTS. Because our eyes offer a direct view of the blood vessels and optic nerve, ocular testing can provide critical insights into the underlying causes of your symptoms.

Autonomic Testing

While not needed in all cases, our POTS treatment center may conduct an informal tilt test to gather further information. Autonomic testing will tell us:

  • How your blood pressure may be involved and what it means in your case
  • Oxygen saturation
  • General functionality

Blood Work

We create a customized blood work order based on the signs and symptoms you have indicated and the results of your other tests. Based on your blood work, we shift treatment, resulting in dynamic care suited to your POTS.

Close Monitoring

During and after your treatment, we will work with you to monitor your recovery and aid you as you return to normal life. We’ll provide helpful guides and answer any questions you may have, including:

  • How should I exercise?
  • What can I eat?
  • How can I return to a normal sleep cycle?

Options for Care

30-minute phone consultation with Dr. Diana Driscoll, Optometrist and Clinical Director

Are you lost in your case? Do you need direction, advice, or encouragement? Although not a medical examination, Dr. Driscoll is a recovered patient, a researcher, and a practitioner and can offer high-level support. She can share her thoughts concerning Inflammatory POTS, IIH, family dynamics, school issues, validation, and recovery. Dr. Driscoll will also send you selected resources following your consultation that may help you.

Three month program to begin recovery including:

  • An app on your cell phone to guide you through Inflammatory POTS (what does the latest research tell us and how can this guide your recovery)
  • 30-minute consultation with Dr. Diana Driscoll
  • Biweekly audios by Dr. Diana Driscoll to educate, inform, and support
  • Over $500 in supplements that may offer you some immediate relief, even if your doctors have not yet identified your inflammation.
  • Heart rate variability monitor to help guide your recovery
  • A recovery journal/workbook
  • Guidance on exercise, sleep, and dietary planning
  • This package covers the commonalities in POTS patients including a tendency to develop abnormal intracranial pressure, parasympathetic nervous system problems, digestive issues, nutrient malabsorption, cognitive decline, immune disorders, and inflammatory states.
  • If you would like to approach POTS with as few medications as possible, or if you are not familiar with Inflammatory POTS, this POTS Care Package™ may be a great place to start.

This is an evaluation of your case to date, with specific guidance for you and your medical team. Not everyone can be a POTS expert nor up on the latest research. We will do this for you!

We will carefully evaluate your medical records to date (including blood work, your brain MRI if you’ve had one, and your ocular records) as well as over 200 potential symptoms and what these may mean.

We will offer specific thoughts and guidance based on your individual case with recommendations for further testing that your medical team can likely complete, differential diagnoses to consider, and ways you may be able to avoid invasive procedures. Are you extraordinarily sensitive? We will discuss that, as well as psychiatric symptoms that can be misinterpreted by those uninformed.

Full case evaluation with a treatment plan and two months of follow-up.
This includes:

  • A careful review of your previous medical records
  • Customized blood work
  • Ocular testing (non-invasive and can be completed by your eye doctor)
  • Two days of appointments with our team with two months of follow- up
  • Audio and workbook guidance continues for three months.
  • You will graduate from us with the knowledge, medicine, and power to not only recover from POTS, but to be healthier throughout your life.
