“Lots of other places will tell you that it is in your head, that you just need exercise or drink more water, more Gatorade, more salt. When we came to POTS Care, we learned that most of that was false in many aspects. POTS Care is a lot better. I definitely was not scared after the first day. I felt confident that we are definitely going to make progress.”
Joshua came to POTS Care after suffering for seven years with diagnoses of POTS and Dysautonomia. Joshua suffered with extreme pain and fatigue, but leaves POTS Care with a treatment plan for healing and new found hope.
UPDATE: Four months after Joshua’s visit to POTS Care, his mom writes: I’ve been wanting to send an update on Josh for the last few weeks, but it’s been so busy here. I’m sitting here listening to him play the piano. Yes, he’s playing the piano! He is teaching himself by watching Youtube videos. Pretty cool, huh? We are seeing progress and figuring out triggers. He is not having the constant, everyday, all day leg pain. When he does have it, we can look back and see that he had gluten. Good to know. He is drinking the Eternal water everyday. He has lost about 10-15 pounds, too. That’s been a huge boost for his self-esteem. Thank you so much for everything. We truly feel like a miracle has happened.
INTERVIEWER: Joshua, we just wanted to go over a couple of questions and see how your week went with us. Can you share a little bit about your illness, and what it has been like, and how it has affected your life so far?
PATIENT: Oh yes, it has been very difficult to live with POTS. It sort of just cuts you off from the outside world. You have to cut off a lot of ties with people that you like. You barely ever get to see people that you like because school changes and your life basically all of a sudden revolves around pain, and you have to find a way to deal with that. It is very difficult to do, but the best thing to remember is to never forget that it is always going to get better.
INTERVIEWER: That’s good. How do you feel that the care you received at POTS Care was different than previous care?
PATIENT: Lots of other places will tell you that it is in your head, that you just need exercise or drink more water, more Gatorade, more salt. When we came to POTS Care, we learned that most of that was false in many aspects. POTS Care is a lot better. I definitely was not scared after the first day. I felt confident that we are definitely going to make progress.
INTERVIEWER: That is so good to hear. Were we able to identify any underlying problems contributing to your illness that others have missed?
PATIENT: Well through my life, I have always had to deal with being sick and being in pain, and now I have found out that all of it is related to POTS. Every sickness and every illness has been related to this one problem, and we never got that before.
INTERVIEWER: Do you feel that we are using real science here at POTS Care?
PATIENT: I do feel like you are using real science. Medicine is a science, and I do not think that there is any way to not be using real science when you are using any type of medicine. I think every day we use science, just no matter what you are doing, sorcery, yes.
INTERVIEWER: I love that. What would you like to say to the folks considering coming to POTS Care?
PATIENT: Do it! It has been a great experience. You will not regret it. Even if you do not have POTS, there is a good chance they might find out that what else is wrong with you, and they know how to fix it. So, do not hesitate! If you do not like flying, do not talk about flying and just wait until the very last day to know exactly what time you are leaving.
INTERVIEWER: That’s great advice. Do you have any other thoughts or comments to add?
PATIENT: I think that covers it pretty well.
INTERVIEWER: Okay. Well thank you for your time, Josh.
